Nevada power of attorney notarization
Nevada financial powers of attorney sit in NRS Chapter 162A. The usual durable POA is signed by the principal, dated, and acknowledged before a Nevada notary (NRS 162A.220). Healthcare powers of attorney in the same chapter often allow two witnesses or a notary. Read the execution block on the form in your hand. Las Vegas hotel-room signings and Reno hospital visits are common. The notary still only completes the notarial certificate.
How the appointment works
- Use a current NRS 162A durable POA and, if needed, a healthcare POA. Fill blanks except signature lines.
- If the healthcare form calls for two witnesses, bring them. Do not use the named agent as a witness.
- Bring government photo ID for the principal. Do not pre-sign.
- Sign each original in front of the Nevada notary. Ask the bank or title company how many originals they want.
- If the property or account is in another state, confirm that office will take a Nevada certificate before you book a Strip notary for convenience.
What to bring
The complete POA, unsigned. Government photo ID for the principal. Extra originals if the bank or title company asked for originals rather than photocopies. If the healthcare form calls for witnesses, bring them. The notary will not fill powers you left blank or guess VIN lines on a motor-vehicle POA.
Tourist and out-of-state use
A Nevada notarial certificate is a Nevada act. A California recorder or a Midwest bank may still reject it. If the property or account is in another state, ask that state's receiving party which commission they will take before you book a Strip notary because you are in town for the weekend.
After the appointment
Keep an original. Give the agent a copy. Nevada RON can substitute for wet ink only if the notary is registered for electronic work and the receiving party will take a Nevada electronic certificate. Witness-required healthcare forms add another check. Wet ink is still the default for many title and hospital packets.
