Nevada apostille from Las Vegas, Reno, or anywhere in the state
Nevada's Secretary of State Authentications office issues apostilles. A Clark County or Washoe County notary can complete the notarial certificate on a private document. They cannot skip the SOS. Casino-adjacent rush shops that imply otherwise are selling a notary appointment, not an apostille.
How the appointment works
- Confirm the destination country wants a Nevada apostille (Hague) vs legalization.
- Vital record: order a certified copy from Nevada Vital Records first.
- Private document: book a Nevada-commissioned notary in Las Vegas, Reno, or elsewhere in the state. Do not use a California notary.
- File with SOS Authentications (Carson City process on the current SOS page). Same-day Strip notarization does not equal same-day apostille.
Typical Nevada packets
Hotel-room POAs for foreign property, adoption packets, and school documents for students leaving the country show up often in Las Vegas. The notary appointment is the short part. Mail time to Carson City (or the SOS process in use that year) is the long part.
If you are not physically in Nevada, a Nevada apostille still requires a Nevada notarial act or a Nevada-issued vital record. Do not notarize in California and ask Nevada to apostille it.
What rush shops are selling
A mobile notary to your hotel, plus a courier to the SOS, is a logistics product. It is not a notary-issued apostille. Fees for SOS processing are paid to the state. Notary and courier fees are separate.
