Authorized
The Department of State authorizes remote notarization through a state-approved remote vendor. The signer is not in the same room. The notarial record and any audio or visual recording of a remote act must be kept at least 10 years. A Michigan-licensed attorney in good standing does not file the $10,000 bond, but still takes the oath with the county clerk.

Statutory maximum fees for notarial acts performed in Michigan.
| Notarial Act | Maximum Fee |
|---|---|
| Acknowledgment or proof (paper) | $10.00 maximum |
The Department of State states that the Michigan Law on Notarial Acts allows up to $10 for each notarial act. Travel may be agreed before the trip. A commission runs at least 6 years and not more than 7, ending on the notary’s birthday: 6 years if the commission date falls before that year’s birthday, and 7 years if it falls after. The $10,000 bond is filed with the county clerk, not with the Department of State.
